Maed^up
Maed^up embodies the coexistence of indigenous and urban ecologies despite environmental and health crises. The Dumagat Tribe, situated near Manila, faces a cultural shift endangering tribal knowledge due to youth migration and threats like the Kaliwa Dam and climate change. Poor infrastructure exacerbates vulnerability. COVID-19 lockdowns further imperil the tribe's livelihood, prompting initiatives like PAKISAMA and K-GAT's family farming system, supported by the UN World Agricultural Watch. This system boosts sales during lockdowns, aligning with urbanites' demand for fresh, local food. Maed^up proposes a resilient food network bridging indigenous and urban societies, fostering inclusion and cultural exchange. It employs low-impact, scalable plug-ins using local materials and modular construction techniques for flexibility and resistance to environmental forces. The proposed application facilitates virtual interactions, pop-up markets, composting stations, and community events, promoting a sustainable civilization valuing farming, public health, and rural-urban harmony.
